Are you confused about food and eating? If so, switch to eating by color and growing height, life energy and quality, and rhythm--or the Polarity way of
eating. The art of healthy eating begins with color and growing
height. Consider the colors of live food using the Polarity elements as your guide. Remember the five elements
of Polarity: air, fire, water, earth, and ether. - Air foods grow six feet and higher above the ground, and are in the green color
family of natural foods
- Fire foods grow
between one foot to six feet above the ground, and are in the yellow color family of natural
foods
- Water foods are ground
level to 12 inches above the ground, and are in the orange color family of natural foods
- Earth foods grow below ground level, and are in the red color
family of natural foods
- Ether foods are not measured by height, and are in the
blue color family of natural foods
You can tell the element and color of foods by the outside of
the food. For example - Air = green beans, green apples
etc.
- Fire = Yellow squash, yellow bananas/apples
- Water = orange carrots, and oranges (fruit)
- Earth = red berries, and beets
Please note
also, some foods fit into more than one energetic catagory. For example - beets are red = earth, and
because they grow beneath the ground they represent the earth element
- carrots are orange = water, but because they grow below the ground they also represent the earth
element
Life energy of food is measured by how close the
food you choose is to its natural or uncooked, processed or altered state. The closer the food is to this natural state,
the more alive it is. The fresher your food, the higher it scores on the life energy scale. Therefore, buying
in bulk may not be the best choice if you are concerned about the life energy of your food. The quality of the life energy of foods are considered to be: fiery or Rajasic
(rajas) in nature, sedating or Tamasic (tasmas) in nature, light/neutral or Satvic (Satvas) in nature. - Rajasic foods = stimulating foods, herbs and grains (complex carbohydrates such as
rice, beans)
- Tamasic foods = heavy and sedating foods such as
meats, oils; in general foods that would be considered fats or proteins
- Satvic
foods = light and neutral in quality, fruits and vegetables
The eating rhythm of how you eat is also important
to consider. Do you eat quickly or slowly? Do you eat often or stick to 3 meals a day? Eating more slowly
is better for your digestive system, and better overall. If you are a fast eater, try to count your chews (20-30 is
a good tempo) which will slow you down. Eating several smaller meals per day--which some call grazing--is easier on
your digestive system, and also assists your body to maintain a more equal glycemic level than eating three large meals.
However, what is most important is to be consistent in eating slowly with lots of chews, and eating in a consistent pattern
(3 meals a day/grazing etc.). In this way your body and its systems establish a balanced understanding of when
it/they will be fed which will assist and enhance your elimination system.
